31 Days of Lessons Learned: Day 16
Fall is finally here and one of my favorite fall activities to do with my preschoolers was leaf rubbings! Hudson and I set out for a nature walk and I had him pick out different leaves that were on the ground. We talked about how they different, ie: color, size, shape, etc. We then went back to the house and I showed him how to do the leaf rubbing. As you will see Mommy ended up doing most of the work as Hudson became very interested in two big rocks...oh well, I had fun at least : )

31 Days of Lessons Learned: Errr I Skipped A Few
All right, all right, I've slacked off on the 31 days...no more!!! I could rattle off a ton of excuses but I won't since they don't matter.
Last week we had a pumpkin themed playdate at our friend Ben's house. The kids wore their costumes, made pumpkins, had pumpkin themed treats, and even got to put their hands inside a pumpkin! Hudson had a blast although he chose not to dig in the pumpkin.
Ok, so this week I will be much better about documenting our learning adventures....if not you can yell at me ;)

31 Days of Lessons Learned: Day 9
3 days a week the Discovery Center has a parent and tot class at 9am that Hudson and I love to go to. They have a wonderful retired teacher who teaches the little class then we do an art project and have snack.
We went today and Ms. Joy actually added another activity called Ms. Joy's Corner where she works with the kids on letters and numbers.
In this activity H put golf tees into the numbered holes by counting and then I asked him to take out different ones.
Here Ms. Joy showed him a flash card, he had to say the number then find the corresponding number and place it on the sheet in the right place
This activity was putting lower case and upper case letters together
This was a big dice with letters on it! Hudson would throw it up in the air and then tell me the letter that landed up and the sound that letter makes.
Simple matching game!
Upstairs in the Center they had this great exhibit that had turtle shells, life cycles, and eggs for the kids to check out
Sometimes we all need to get out of the house so make sure to check your local area for things to do with your toddler!
31 Days of Lessons Learned: Day 8
Yesterday it was cold and yucky out so we did some indoor activities.
First up a little painting...I picked out the colors but let Hudson decide what he wanted to paint so this is his interpretation of a pumpkin patch.
Next I grabbed some blue painters tape we had and made shapes on the floor for a sorting game. I had H put the corresponding shapes in the right place and when he was done we counted how many shapes we had.
These are both very easy activities that you can do with your toddler, don't try and do too much because it becomes frustrating not only for you but for them!

31 Days of Lessons Learned: Days 6 & 7
So my computer was acting up yesterday so no cute button today!
This weekend I learned a lesson, don't fall in love with a property!
M took us out to this beautiful property on 5 acres and I of course fell in love! We called the agent who listed his office number...news flash every agent should list their cell. We didn't hear back, so of course we went back the next day and fell even more in love! Crossing our fingers that they call back today so we can actually go inside.
Oh and I may or may not have set off the alarm when I noticed the back door cracked open & closed it...oops!!!

31 Days Of Lessons Learned Day 5
It was such a beautiful day on Friday I decided to take the learning outside! Our town has an amazing Children's Museum called Discovery Center, thy have a great walking trail with tons to see.
Hudson loves looking for turtles, ducks, beavers, and birds when we go! You can always turn any outdoor adventure into a learning experience by just pointing and showing your child different things in nature.
They have these great plaques along the way that talk about all the different species that live there.

31 Days Of Lessons Learnerd: Day 3
Yesterday I lucked out of having to come up with a lesson because we were invited over to Hudson's friend Carter's house for a day of apples! For those of you who don't know October is Apple Month!
Bekah really outdid herself! She had apple books to read to the kids, art, apple tasting, and games all lined up! It was wonderful...so wonderful in fact Hudson was too wired to nap!
listening to the story
making caterpillar name...no H does not write that well, mommy helped
apple puppet
in this game the player sorts the apples & then counts to make sure they got it right
this is my favorite spot in Bekah's house, her very own school corner
getting ready to taste every type of apple available :)
after apple tasting we let the kids run wild outside and then prepared an apple fest for lunch, there was applesauce, apple slices, apple turnovers, apple cookie, cider, juice, apple chips, you name it we had it!
Bekah even sent everyone home with a bag full of goodies, can you tell she used to be a teacher!
It was a fantastic day and I am hoping to convince the other moms who were there that maybe we need to do something like this on a regular basis....

31 Days Of Lessons Learned: Day 2
So it's day 2 of my 31 days and today while racking my brain for something to do I found myself looking at construction paper & glitter...then I thought ok we can make glitter pumpkins. Oh and this would be a good place to tell you that I cannot cut or draw to save my life which makes cutting out shapes difficult, so please don't laugh at my pumpkins!
We have the book 5 Little Pumpkins so I thought it would be fun to cut out 5 pumpkins and then have Hudson use the glitter to make the numbers, I then read the book to him and we counted off the pumpkins.
Hudson really liked this activity and it was very easy to do!
After we made the pumpkins Hudson asked for a pumpkin snack, well I don't care for pumpkin so I ran out to the store so that we could make a pumpkin snack! I remembered Pam had posted an easy pumpkin muffin recipe so I followed that!
Here is the recipe, it's so easy:
1 box Betty Crocker Moist Vanilla Cake Mix
1 Can Libby Pumpkin Filling
Mix dry cake mix and pumpkin together, spoon into muffin pan, and bake on 350 for 20 minutes...seriously it is that easy!
While H's response was mixed M loved them so it was a win!

31 Days Of Lessons Learned
I am linking up with The Nester for her 31 Days event this month. I choose the topic of Lessons Learned because as a SAHM I am constantly looking for ways for Hudson to learn since he isn't in preschool yet.
As a former preschool teacher I actually find it harder to teach my own child because he knows how to press my buttons!
I love using workbooks like this one with Hudson, they have tons of activities and we usually try to do at least 6 pages a day depending on H's attention span.
I hope you'll check back with me all month for more Lessons Learned!
And a HUGE THANK YOU to AP for designing my button!
