Tragedy Through The Eyes of A 3 Year Old

As like most people on Friday my world was shaken by the act of 1 individual. I wanted to cry and throw up all at the same time all day and all weekend. My faith however wasn't shaken and I immediately began praying for all the mothers and fathers who were grieving. I called Mack and all we wanted to do was race to pick up Hudson from school, we didn't because I knew we would probably scare him with how emotional we were.

When I did pick Hudson up I hugged him through the squirms and was reluctant to let him go. H had parents night out at church and I had our parents group Christmas party(M was out of town) so I didn't even turn on the tv until after H had gone to bed. My heart broke all over again.

Saturday Hudson ended up catching some of the news and I'll never forget what he said..."mommy, that bad man hurt the kids and now they can't go see their mommy and daddy..."

I was shocked that he had picked up what he did so quickly, I don't know if he actually comprehended it but he knew what was going on. I immediately decided that there would be no more news in our house and put on Christmas music for the rest of the day.

Hudson has mentioned it a couple more times but I try to just say that while the kids can't see their mommy and daddy they get to see God and he seems ok with that. I didn't think that I would have to be explaining this to him, I naively thought he was "too" young to understand what happend in CT, I was wrong.

As we try and explain what has happened to our kids please let us also remind them that the act of 1 person does not make our schools unsafe and should not make us live in a world of fear.

Adjustments

Well I survived my 1st month of work and have lived to tell about it. It has been nice being back in the working world although somedays all I want to do is curl up in bed with Hudson and watch Wild Kratts on repeat...

Hudson is loving school, he sings the grace he learned at school every night before dinner and loves telling me about the bible lessons he is learning. As much as I like the school is in he will be moving to a new school in January. We had been on the waiting list for the local Catholic school where a bunch of our church friends send their kids...I got the call last week that they had a spot and after lots of discussion we decided to accept!

Normally I wouldn't have moved him since he is doing so well but this is where he will eventually go to preK and kindergarten so we figured since we got the spot we couldn't let it go. I'm excited for Hudson to wear his little uniform and he'll even go to mass 2 Fridays a month which is really neat!

M and I have fallen into a routine when it comes to who showers first and all that jazz. I have been trying to take 30 minutes when I come home to do a chore around the house, even if it is just washing the dishes in the sink only to fill it up again :) We find ourselves not watching as much TV these days which is actually nice.

We have still not adjusted to meal planning well and I figure once the madness of the holidays are over then we can get back on board with meal planning. Working out has also taken a backseat to the holiday craziness...oops!

Overall the adjustment period has gone well, yes we have a half lit tree, no presents, and piles of laundry to fold but hey such is life!

Thanksgiving In VA Part II

After leaving the farm we drove back to Richmond to have dinner with my family. I was so busy catching up with my mom and aunts that I really didn't take any pictures!

On Friday Hudson lucked out and went to camp for the day, mom and I went shopping, M went deer hunting, and daddy played golf. That night M and I went to to Edo Squids with our favorite couple Ti and Scotty....it has become a tradition of sorts for the 4 of us to go there when we come into town :)

Thanksgiving In Virginia Part I

Happy Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had an amazing time with their family!  We headed to Virginia to spend time with both sets of parents and couldn't have asked for more.

When we got into to town we had a quick visit with my parents and then headed down to the farm to be with M's family. Wednesday we hung around, did some skeet shooting, and just really enjoyed being unplugged!

Somehow I let M convince me to run a Turkey Trot Thursday morning....I mean really?  I ran the 2 mile with my SIL & FIL while M and my BIL ran the 5 mile. The kids came and watched us at the end and Hudson even crossed the finish line with both of us!

Emma and Hudson then ran a little 100 yard dash which was really cute!

After we all showered it was time for tractor rides with Uncle Lee :)

We headed back to my parents and I'll share those pictures tomorrow!
