Happenings

So a lot has happened since the last time I blogged! VCU has made it to the final four!!!!!
I am beyond excited for my team and cannot wait to watch the game on Saturday night :)

Hudson and I had some fun days last week on our days together, we painted and played with cars for hours!

Sunday I came down with something awful, fever, cough, sore throat....yuck! So Monday mommy used PBS as a babysitter.....I hate doing it but I was in no condition to play or take Hudson outside.

I went to work yesterday still feeling like crap and the day just never got better, I don't want to get into it here but let's just say I was really questioning whether I still wanted to work there.

Hopefully the rest of the week will go smoothly :)

V-C-U!!!

Tonight I will be rooting for the VCU Rams as they take on FSU for a chance to make it to the Elite 8 in the NCAA tourney!!!

My dad started taking me to VCU games a long long time ago, I have such wonderful memories of cheering on the Rams with my dad :)

Most people know that when you ask me where I went to college I will automatically say ECU, and that is true, although if you ask me where I graduated from I will say VCU. I spent the most wonderful 4 years at ECU and all of my college friends are my friends from ECU, however due to having to take a medical leave during my senior year I wasn't able to graduate with my friends :(
They all went there own ways and I moved back to Richmond to finish up at VCU.

I have not been able to watch any of the VCU games on tv since we got rid of cable and of course tonight's game is on TBS. I will not be watching.....I am not supertisious really but hey they have won 3 games and everytime I have worn my pink VCU shirt and NOT watched the game. Why mess with that????

So if you aren't an FSU fan please pull for VCU tonight!

P.S. I will also be rooting for Richmond to win so that they can play VCU and we can have a black and blue rematch

Night Terrors

Poor Hudson has been suffering from night terrors this week. If you don't know what night terrors are count yourself lucky! Night terrors are very different from nightmares in many ways...
  • a person/child has no memory of night terror
  • occur 2-4 hours after a child has fallen asleep, when they are transitioning from non-REM sleep to REM
  • a child will usually sit upright in bed and shout or scream in fear, cry uncontrollably in toddlers
  • kick and thrash
  • sweat, breathe heavily, and heart rate increase
  • hard to wake up, unable to be consoled by parents
  • stare wide-eyed, confused, unable to speak or comprehend what is going on around them

All the research we have done says that you are never to try and wake, comfort, or talk to a child that is having a night terror. These things will only cause them to become more frightened. The hardest thing M and I have ever had to do is sit and watch as Hudson had a night terror the other night, listening to your child cry in fear rips at your heart!

We are going to try a few of the websites suggestions as to how to possibly prevent these in the future (Hudson thankfully did not have one last night).

Please pray for our sweet boy that he may sleep peacefully!

Big Boy Bed!

Well we finally bit the bullet and moved Hudson from his crib to his bed. He has been in his "new" bed for a week now and it seems to be going smoothly. The first day we put him the bed for nap he jumped up and down and sang songs so we had to go get him. That was really the only day we had a major problem. In the mornings he does get out of his bed, we find him reading books most of the time. Last night he seemed to be having little nightmares and kept getting out of bed and trying to open the door, after going and getting him 3 times we caved and let him sleep with us.

At first I didn't think I would be ok with him getting out of his bed since he can't get back in but he enjoys reading in the morning and there really isn't anything in his room that is super dangerous. We also have the video monitor so we can check out what he is up to. Now nighttime is a different story, if he had just been being defiant I probably would have just let him fall asleep on the floor but since the poor guy was seemingly still asleep every time I went to get him it wasn't an option last night.

Here are pictures of the new "big" boy room!

Hudson sleeps all over the place so the double bed works great for him!

The 2 very worn frogs are his main lovies, and don't worry the big pillows get moved when he sleeps

Hanging out at the park

This past Sunday we decided to head over to Mead Gardens after the farmers market. We hadn't been since Hudson was around 9 months old so it was great to go back now that he can explore! Mack also loves exploring so my 2 boys had a ton of fun!

In other news, Hudson is now officially in his big boy bed! We tried it for nap on Saturday and it did not go well, think jumping up and down and singing! Saturday night he went down without much fight and slept until 9:30 Sunday morning! Since then he has done really well! We did find him out of bed this morning, he was reading books, We have a doorknob safety thing on the door so I am not worried about him getting out of his room, however we will see how long he quietly reads and then decide the best course of action!

Spring Days and A Sad Goodbye

The weather in Orlando has finally turned to spring! After a long winter the temps are in the 70's and 80's now! We have had a lot of fun playing outside in this beautiful weather :)

Hudson loves to push around his little John Deere gator, we actually got him a motorized power wheels one this weekend! He also loves to throw his big red ball while in the backyard, although Mommy does not like it when he throws down into the woods.....after finding a rattle snake I have no desire to go in there!

The start of spring also brought a sad goodbye for us, our friends the Strongs moved to Houston :( Ryan, Natascha, and Maddie spent Thanksgiving with us this year and recently welcomed Abby in December. We will miss them very much but know they will love this new adventure!

Wedding season is starting and we all know what that means......time to kick it into high gear and lose some weight! I am starting with portion control, no snacking, and exercise.......

A day in the life

I thought I would do a day in the life post today for you all. I am going to profile my Thursdays since they are usually the busiest. So here goes....
4:40am.......alarm goes off
5:20am.......roll out of bed and get ready for the day, make breakfast
5:45am.......get in car and drive to work
6:05am.......arrive at work
6:15am.......unlock building, turn off alarm, make coffee, turn on music and computers
6:30am......check in first 2 surgical patients, make charts for next weeks surgeries, check in more patients both surgical and non-surgical
12:00pm....try and eat lunch while still answering the phone and checking patients in and out
5:50pm.....turn off computers, music, and lights, clock-out, turn on alarm if there aren't any overnight patients
5:57pm.....rush out the door and down the street to pick up Hudson before 6
6:00pm....head home
6:30pm....arrive home if traffic is normal, add another 30 minutes if it is Friday
6:45pm.....feed Hudson dinner
7:00pm.....bath time for Hudson
7:30pm....Mack usually arrives home, hop in shower while Mack watches Hudson
8:00pm....Lay out Hudson's clothes for the next day and then put him to bed
9:00pm....go to bed in guestroom (this is done so that I don't wake up Mack in the Morning and so that he doesn't wake me up when he goes to bed)
So that is what life is like when you work 12 hour shifts! It may be a pain but it works for us. We have an awesome babysitter that comes to our house on Thursdays and Fridays to take Hudson to school. I enjoy my days off when I get to hangout with Hudson!
Here is the little guy at his 2yr appt.

Birthday Party #2 at the Beach

Hudson was lucky enough to have a 2nd Birthday party with his Grandparents! My parents flew down and Mack's drove from Richmond! We decided to rent a house up at New Smyrna Beach so that no one had to stay at a hotel. Hudson loved the beach!

We had awesome weather Friday, Saturday was too windy for the beach, and of course Sunday was beautiful...when we had to leave!

I am so grateful that our parents are willing to come down here pretty often to see Hudson, he knows all of them by name at this point and just loves being with them!
